As we come to the end of Volunteers’ Week 2024, we hope you have seen the diversity of volunteer activities within the College, and how enjoyable and satisfying the work can be for those members involved.
One of the largest areas of opportunity to volunteer with the College is as part of the governing bodies and committee structure. We work with approximately 550 member volunteers across more than 40 committees and groups, covering all 17 pathology specialties.
Today’s Volunteers' Week blog is all about inspiring the next generation of pathologists. The current workforce crisis only serves to heighten the importance of encouraging more medical students to specialise in the profession.
For today’s Volunteers’ Week blog, we’re going global. As an international professional body, around a quarter of our members are based outside of the UK. We are proud to represent such a diverse membership base and we are committed to raising standards in pathology around the world for the benefit of all.

The College runs 2 annual essay prizes for undergraduates and foundation doctors – the Paola Domizio Undergraduate Essay Prize and the Hugh Platt Foundation Essay Prize. They present a unique opportunity to discover more about pathology and hone your writing skills.

22–28 January is cervical prevention awareness week and a chance to raise awareness and campaign for the elimination of cervical cancer. In February 2023, we endorsed a report by Jo's Trust Cervical Cancer Trust that set out recommendations on how to eliminate cervical cancer in the UK, which included contributions from pathology specialty experts.
